Howdy, team! Most of you already know me, but I'm Ashkatom, your palhoncho for this venture. Nice to meet you all! I thought I'd start things off with an intro post that will hopefully prove to be le handy for everyone.
1. 0 How do I HSO?
Congrats! You have already joined a team (the team!) so the hard part is over with.
What happens next:
1.1 Prompt is released!
Wooooo! You go look at the prompt and see if it's one you want to fill. If it is, you'll check in on the post I'll make for each prompt and be all, "This looks like fun! I have IDEAS, team." This is also the place where you see if you want to collab with anyone else!
1.2 Post your fill in the comm
Everyone has posting privileges, so this should be a breeze! MAKE SURE THAT YOU'VE TAKEN NOTE OF THE HSO LIMITATIONS.
Limitations
Fic/meta must be between 800-3000 words.
Combination fic/art entries cannot have more than 4 images.
All other image-based media (including comics) cannot exceed 10 images/panels.
Cosplay must be at least 75% created or assembled new for the challenge.
The penalties for going over 3k words will be reduced in the following manner:
3000-3050: no penalty (to allow for disparities in wordcount software)
3051-3150: -30 points
3151-3250: -60 points
etc.
PLEASE NOTE that gdocs is notoriously bad at generating an accurate wordcount, so you should probably check your submission at http://www.wordcounter.net/ just to make sure.
Also, this year we are requiring transcriptions of all text on images. These transcriptions count towards the wordcount.
Just from me, don't forget to include the tags OR say that you're not using them as well! I know there was a huge kerfuffle over it, but I think the tags are important and would like our comm to be proactive in using them. The actual list seems to have gone astray, but when the mods decide on what to do then we comply, because we're chill like that.
1.3 Vote on which fill to make the one submission
Once everyone's put up their fills, I'll make a new post with a poll. You vote for which submission you want to send in! You CAN vote for your own submission, but please consider which submission is the 'best' - e.g. which ones are total quality, which ones fit the prompt the best, and so forth. I'll be the tiebreaker in the event there is a tie in votes, but only after discussion in case someone else wants to switch their vote. We will all be very polite and stay friends, because this is meant to be a fun activity!
After that, I'll send the agreed fill to the mods and the voting will begin! Here's how voting works according to the HSO mods:
Here's how voting works. About 48 hours after the round submissions are up, one of the mods will open the voting poll. If you are a registered member of any team, including Team English, you may cast FIVE votes. Exactly five. No more and no less.
WE WILL BE CHECKING.
Also, you may not vote for your own team.
WE WILL BE CHECKING THIS ALSO.
Lastly, you may not vote for entries that don’t exist. (Honestly, we didn’t think we needed to say this last year, but apparently we do!)
WE DEFINITELY CHECK THIS, IT IS REALLY EASY TO CHECK.
If you do any of these things, your vote will be disqualified and your team will lose 5 points; we will be sending you and your Palhoncho an email explaining why.
So! Cast EXACTLY FIVE VOTES, for a TEAM THAT ISN'T US, or we will lose points. You may also cast 0 votes, I am pretty sure. It is either 0 or 5.

Hi shippers! Welcome to Bonus Round 3.
In this round, you'll be creating fanworks based on video and computer games from before 2000!
Rules
- Choose a game that was released before 2000, and post a fanwork based on the game in some way. Make sure to use the appropriate title format (see below). Examples include: character inserts, rewritten dialogue, costume redesigns, alternate soundtracks, theme song covers, photoshopped promo art, etc.
- Your fill should not be focused on Homestuck characters playing the game--the point of this round is to make a crossover.
- For this challenge, you are allowed to submit fills based on your team ship. You don't have to, of course!
- For this challenge, there is no minimum wordcount. We are trusting you not to abuse that fact!
- This challenge will run until 11:59PM EDT July 21. After that time, even if it's just by a minute according to the timestamp, no submissions will be accepted for points.

I'll then make a poll for us to vote on which fill to submit, which will be open for 48 hours. Then I'll post the victor in the ~official Round One community~ and the games will begin :O.

I am a WRITER OF FIC, and sometimes an ARTIST, but NOT A VERY GOOD ONE. That said, I am a TRULY BITCHTITS COLOURIST. If you want to collab on art with me by having me colour it, I am so up for that, you don't even know. Otherwise, collabing with me is probably best done via art + fic entries, which are REALLY COOL.
